We had multiple stops along the way at gorgeous waterfalls and crater lakes. Then we had a few hours on our own hanging out at Landmannalaugar. My husband and I chose to do a 4.5mile hike up and around Brennisteinsalda mountain (there were other shorter hikes) and then spent a little time in the thermal springs post hike. You take a super jeep into an area that you can’t access with any normal vehicle, including most 4 x 4’s and depending on the weather and circumstances of the area you do a hike. As always, I think it’s important to remember that you’re only going to be as ambitious as the least mobile person in your group. My wife and I, as an example, would have covered much more ground and chosen much more ambitious to rain, but we needed to ensure everybody in the group was comfortable so we chose something a little bit milder.
